Building Regulations Part L
This is the approved document which is issued by the Secretary of State relating to the conservation of fuel and power. It came into effect on the 1st April 2002 with implications from 2005 and 2007. It can be downloaded from the Planning Portal on the Communities and Local Government website. It dictates, among other things, the minimum boiler efficiencies and minimum required controls for heating systems. As a certified company, Oil Services South West Ltd. can advise on the implications of this Building Regulation relating to heating and are able to issue Landlord Safety/Compliance Certificates.
Building Regulations Part J
This Building Regulation primarily deals with all heating appliances, be they oil-fired, gas or solid fuel. This too can be downloaded from the Planning Portal on the Communities and Local Government website.
All new installations or boiler replacements have to comply with the above listed Building Regulations. All such works require prior Building Regulation notification to the local authority prior to commencement (typical cost £150-£250).
